Getting to Il Borro
We hope some of you will make this part of a larger vacation and will join us at either the front or back end of your stay. Il Borro is not on a public transport link, therefore we recommend you rent a car from the airport so that you have flexibility with your schedule and the ability to explore Tuscany. A car is not essential, however – it's entirely your choice. Scroll down for information about shuttle service.
Il Borro is primarily served by Florence, Pisa and Rome airports. Rome obviously has the most daily flights from the U.S., and there are a few direct flights to Pisa as well. Florence airport is the closest to Il Borro but does require a connection through an EU country since it isn't an "international" airport. (If you're thinking of redeeming frequent flyer miles for this trip, you might consider routing through another European city to Florence or Pisa, as this could improve your chances of finding award tickets). If you have the time, the scenic drive from Florence through Tuscany is transformative.
If you do rent a car, you'll need an international driving permit which takes 5 minutes and $15 from a AAA office. You might want to coordinate with others traveling on the same schedule in order to drive together. Rent a GPS or bring your own – you'll be glad you did. There's no reason to be intimidated about driving through Italy, but some of the directions aren't so intuitive and it's nice to know about that wrong turn as soon as you've made it.....

BY CAR:
From FLORENCE AIRPORT (FLR) – approximately 1 hour
Take the highway directly outside the airport and follow directions for the A1 and A11 (these signs are green while all other road signs are blue). Get to the toll and go south on the A1 towards Roma. Stay on this highway for about 20 mins (4 exits) until you reach the Valdarno exit where you get off. Come out of the toll booth and turn right on the roundabout. Continue for about half a mile and then on the next roundabout you need to turn left (11 o’clock). Il Borro is then signposted. Turn right at the next roundabout and then follow the road for 15 mins until you reach the town of San Giustino Valdarno. Go through the town and then turn right – signposted Il Borro. The estate is about a mile ahead on the left hand side. Enter through the main entrance gates which are usually closed (ring "Reception") and continue down the long drive to the reception.
From PISA AIRPORT (PSA) – approximately 1.5 hours
Take the highway right outside the airport towards Firenze (Florence) and continue for about 40 minutes. Take the exit signposted in green for the A1 highway towards Roma. Go through the toll headed towards Roma, then follow the directions above.
NOTE: If you need to ask for directions, you'll need to stipulate ‘San Giustino Valdarno’ as there is another town of a similar name but in the wrong direction!
From ROMA AIRPORT (FCO) – approximately 2.5 hours
Take the GRA north in the direction of Firenze (Florence, signs in green). Exit where indicated for Firenze and follow that road which will take you to the A1 autostrada (highway). Continue on the highway for just under two hours until you reach the Valdarno exit. Come out of the toll booth and turn right on the roundabout. Continue for about half a mile and then on the next roundabout follow signs for "Terranuova Bracciolini". Follow the road and after a mile or so veer left. At the roundabout take the first exist where Il Borro will be signposted in brown. Follow the road for 15 minutes until you reach the town of San Giustino Valdarno. Go through the town and then veer right at the fork in the road - signposted Il Borro. The estate is about a mile ahead on the left hand side. Enter through the main entrance which is usually closed (ring "Reception") and continue down the long drive to the reception office.
